Nov 1 Documentation | Unplanned

Photo:
Daily Doc | Nov 1
Words: Jake is the bread maker in this house. Grandma Anderson makes the most amazing bread on the planet; she was the bread lady at the Parkville Farmer's Market for years and years. Her cinnamon rolls are heaven and there are always bags and bags of her egg rolls at family parties. Her basement is an industrial kitchen: giant Kitchen Aids and stoves and freezers. As a result, Jake is a total bread snob.

Jake bakes the bread and rolls out the pizza dough. I was even intimidated to make bread until this summer because he's so picky, but I've gotten over that. I'm not ever going to be Grandma Anderson level, but now bread making is something we can do together. I make the pizza dough, and Jake tosses it.

What you can take from this:
  • Not only did I take multiple photos of this event, but I had a ton of other events from the day to choose from. There was a bit of Jonas dancing to Yo Gabba Gabba, and several random shots from Instagram (I'm @Megan_NerdNest). I choose the photo that had a story behind it that I was inspired to tell.
  • The lighting in my kitchen isn't great after sundown. I opt for grainy photos instead of using flash. It's not the quality that matters for me, it's the documentation (though, of course, I'll go with quality where I can get it).
  • The photo is about today, but the writing focuses on Jake's grandmother and the effect that her bread making has on our immediate family. If photos inspire memories, don't be afraid to dig deeper.
  • I am a wordy person, so I naturally write paragraphs when at the computer. Don't feel overwhelmed, a sentence or two of writing is just fine!

This is my unplanned documentation for the day. This workshop is about documenting what matters to you, so I'm documenting what inspires me. If you get stuck, try documenting something from the Daily Doc | Nov 2012 handout. It has 30 prompts to use if you get stuck documenting. I'm tackling all the prompts month AND doing unplanned daily documentation.
