Nov 8 Documentation | Unplanned

Words: Eliza is so good about doing her homework. She does it on Tuesdays (words of the week) and Thursdays (math). Tonight she was working on l'additions. She wanted to finish outside so she could be with Joans and me: I love that we all want to share the same space almost all of the time.

She did great on this particular homework. She had to re-try on three problems (all dealing with bigger numbers) and re-wrote a lot of her backwards numbers. Great job, E!

What you can take from this:
  • Step back to get the setting of the photo. I could have taken a close-up of Eliza or one over her shoulder, but this photo tells three stories instead of one: one about homework, one about us liking to be together, and one about where we live. Zooming in gives focus to your story; zooming out expands it.
  • Sometimes journaling can be a sort of love letter. These words document E's routine and this event, but they also show her that I'm proud of her. Add in a few sentences to let someone know how you feel!

This is my unplanned documentation for the day. This workshop is about documenting what matters to you, so I'm documenting what inspires me. If you get stuck, try documenting something from the Daily Doc | Nov 2012 handout. It has 30 prompts to use if you get stuck documenting. I'm tackling all the prompts month AND doing unplanned daily documentation.
